Bourbon Coffee

The Bourbon coffee varietal is a gourmet Arabica coffee plant, and are descendants of those brought to the island of Reunion (formerly Bourbon), which is located in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Africa. It is not one of the four main coffee species (Arabica, Robusta, Liberica, Excelsa).

Bourbon is originally grown in island of Bourbon (now is Reunion), French. In XIX century, the French has brought Bourbon beans to colonies for farming. In 1875, the first Bourbon tree has been successfully grown in Vietnam. Due to high demand in nutrition and weather condition, so few Bourbon trees could survive and adapt to Vietnam Highland.

After harvested and processed, Bourbon coffee beans are sold in the market under the name “Arabica Du Tonkin”, which is only served to royal and high class families. They described Bourbon’s taste as light bitterness, chocolate flavor and red wine’s sourness. All those characters make Bourbon coffee unique.
